Refurbishment and Demolition Surveys

A refurbishment / demolition survey is needed before any planned refurbishment or demolition work is carried out. This type of survey is used to locate and describe, as far as reasonably practicable, all ACMs (Asbestos Containing Materials) in the area where the refurbishment or demolition work will take place.

The purpose of the Survey is to ensure that contractors and all other persons coming into contact with the site are protected from asbestos containing materials during the refurbishment /demolition.

The survey will be fully intrusive and involve destructive inspection as necessary, to gain access to all areas, including those that may be difficult to reach. A refurbishment / demolition survey may also be required in other circumstances, e.g. when more intrusive maintenance and repair work will be carried out.

A full sampling programme is undertaken to identify possible Asbestos Containing Materials (ACM’s) and to estimate their volume and surface area. This measurement can used by specialist removal contractors as abases for estimating the cost of removal where necessary.

The area to be surveyed must be vacated during the survey and certified ‘fit for reoccupation’ after the survey.

The results of your asbestos survey will be used to complie a report which will be used to provide you with a detailed picture of the presence and type of any asbestos in your building together with guidance and advice about the most appropriate way to manage the asbestos

The format and content of our report will ensure you can confirm you are complying with your legal obligations as a Duty Holder as set out by the Health and safety Executive.

All surveys, analysis of results and reporting are carried out to the highest standards and are in full accordance with HSG264 Asbestos: The Survey Guide and HSG248 Asbestos: The analysts’ guide for sampling, analysis and clearance procedures.
